Subject	Can the fan be installed backwards?

Message	Dumb question, but is it possible to have the fan put on the other way around? Is the fan suppose to blow toward radiator or into the engine? When I'm standing by the drivers side fender, the fan air blows directly towards the engine and up to my face. Just reinstalled the radiator and fan after the front coolant hose replacement. I did forget to put back the lower fan shroud, and there is a tear in the bottom cover, but didn't think this could send all that air directly upward. Thanks for your input.
